Sam Calderone, former MLB catcher

Sam Calderone, who played for three seasons in the major leagues, died on Nov. 28, 2006. He was 80.

According to his obituary, Calderone had been battling Parkinson’s disease. He died on the day that was he and his wife’s 53rd anniversary.

Calderone, a catcher, played in 91 games in three seasons — 1950, 1953 and 1954 — with the New York Giants. He hit .291 in 131 at-bats with 16 runs scored, a home run and 25 RBI. … Read full obituary
